Llewelly’s Gallery was officially opened on Saturday 25th July 2009 by Gary Roberts, who before he retired, built up a great following with his Celtic Images Gallery at Hilton Court, Roch.
Among the many guests that evening were local photographers, family and friends, and several local businessmen and women all gathered together to celebrate Gary’s new venture.
Andrew Davies AM/AC Minister for Economic Development and Transport, who was at the Milford Haven Marina that evening, called in to wish Gary well, and showed great interest in the many photographs displaying Gary’s evocative style.
The opening of the Gallery was a proud moment for Gary’s father Ken, himself an accomplished amateur photographer. A selection of Ken’s nostalgic photographs of Milford Docks in the 1980’s have been turned into cards, and are proving very popular with the local fishing community, and visitors to the Marina who have an interest in maritime history.
The Gallery itself is situated alongside the Milford Marina. The massive glass frontage and lovely high ceilings allow the light to flood into the Gallery, thus providing the photographs on display ample room to be shown to their best effect.
All the printing and mounting of the photographs are carried out in the Gallery workshop, by Gary and his father. The framing is outsourced to local specialists in that field.
Either Gary or his father Ken are usually ‘on duty’ in the Gallery, and they both are a useful source of information regarding the individual photographs, and their link to local history.
There have been times when Gary has had to make 8 or more visits to a particular location, usually at dusk or dawn, in order to capture that ‘unique moment’.
In the future Gary hopes to include displays of ceramics and glassware, this coupled with the diversity of Gary’s photographs will ensure that any visit to Llewellyn’s Gallery will be a real feast for the eyes.
